Situated between MIT at one end of Mass Ave in Cambridge, and Harvard on the other is Central Square. There are a wide variety of excellent places to eat in this area, from American fare to vegan options, sushi, smoothie shops, burger bars, bakeries, and a number of international eateries. While the area immediately around MIT is limited in its options, Central and Harvard Square are not, and between them, you won't run out of places to try.
It's worth a few minutes to stretch your legs and try something new when you find yourself tired of on-campus options.
Recent students share their favorite spots:
Selection around campus is kind of limited. We would frequent Dunkin Donuts and Anna's Taqueria in the Student Center; Miracle of Science, Flour, Darwin's, Salonki Greek, and Cosi on Mass Avenue, and Asgards at University Park. If you don't mind the 15-20 minute walk from campus, Central Square offers a number of good restaurants including Jose's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina and H-Mart Food Court.
Several really good cheap restaurants around town include a Cuban Restaurant, El Oriental de Cuba on Centre Street in the Jamaica Plain/ Roxbury area that is really good.
The Helmand is a great Afghani restaurant near Kendall Square and Alive & Kicking Lobsters on Cambridge St. has good seafood.
There are a lot of cheap restaurants near Boston University and near Fenway that are good.
Another restaurant is Boston Burger Company across the Charles River (take the Harvard Bridge along Mass Ave). It has an amazing burger menu and you won't leave hungry!
Miracle of Science, Asgards, & Muddy Charles, were some of the favorites. Convenient and economical. Thursday nights out after Ventures and Finance class is a tradition. Other suggestions include R&D Pub (in the Stata Center) Beacon Hill Pub (Boston), Meadhall (Kendall Square), and Brick & Mortar (Central Square).
