Student Travel
In addition to courses, students may also take part in programs that involve travel.
Annually, the RED Studio class visits New York City each spring.
There are course field trips around the city including Seaport, the Fenway, and Nubian Sq.
Activities that are held outside of normally scheduled class day/time are not required but encouraged.
Although some financial assistance may be available, students are responsible for all travel-related expenses. If you are an international student planning to leave the US during your time as an MIT student for course or leisure travel or for conference/research purposes, please ensure you carry the following information with you at all times:
Valid passport
Visa with a consulate stamp
Financial Support Documentation
For conference, research, or leisure-related travel, have a letter indicating your student status and dates of your travel. This letter is something the academic administrator is able to provide you with on CRE letterhead.
Class of 2020; Kate Mytty, Nicole Zaccack; IAP Internship in South America
MIT's International Travel Risk Policy
Depending upon the area of the world to which your travels take you, you may be required to complete an International Travel Risk Acknowledgement Form and/or a MIT Student High Risk Policy Waiver Application.
You can find out more about these documents and MIT's International Travel Risk Policy to which you will be subject as an MIT student, here: http://icc.mit.edu/travel-abroad/safety-and-security/mit-international-travel-risk-policy
The Program’s policy regarding student travel and other academic-related activities does not include arrangements for spouses/significant others or friends. If for some reason a family member or other person is joining you, they are responsible for their own arrangements(reservations, room, flights, etc). In addition, these individuals would not necessarily have access or invitation to all locations on the CRE's agenda (i.e., they will not be included in student tours or planned activities during the trip). If they want to link up for student-planned activities, they are welcome to do so. This is in order to keep logistics and preparations focused on the MSRED.
